Analysis of raising of the salmon and sturgeon fishes in the ponds of UAB “Vasaknos”

Fishery has rich traditions in Lithuania. It is one of the oldest branches of the business, so a growing attention for the aquaculture as for a tool for protecting various kinds of fishes’ resources is being paid at the moment. The possibilities of fishery development have increased significantly after Lithuania has become the member of EU – this is a result of market’s freedom and a bigger space of trading. A big attention for the development of the fishery has been paid in the Programme of the Fishery Sector for 2007-2013. Also it is important to notice that a Department of the International Centre of Aquaculture was established in Lithuania recently by showing the understanding of the importance of aquaculture in the Lithuania’s business field. In respect to this, it is very important today to analyse the possibilities of aquaculture development, its economical benefit as well as the conditions of fishes breeding. So in this Masters’ thesis a big attention is being paid for the peculiarities of fishes raising in the fishery farm UAB “Vasaknos” as well as for analysis of economical data of this farm and for the research of the physical and chemical characteristics of the farm’s ponds’ water. The aim of the thesis: to analyze the peculiarities of the salmon and sturgeon fishes raising in the fishery farm UAB “Vasaknos” as well as provide the analysis of the economical characteristics of this farm’s activity and physical and chemical characteristics of the farm’s ponds’, pool’s, reservoirs’ water. The tasks of the thesis: 1) to define the importance of the aquaculture sector in the fishery of Lithuania as well as its prospects; 2) to analyse the peculiarities of the salmon and sturgeon fishes; 3) to analyse the peculiarities of the raising of salmon and sturgeon fishes; 4) to analyze the economical characteristics of UAB “Vasaknos” activity; 5) to analyse the physical and chemical characteristics of the farm’s ponds’ water and to compare them with the ideal norms. Analytical and observation methods have been applied in the thesis. A research of the thesis has been implemented in few steps: the theoretical analysis of the thesis’ theme has been implemented by paying the main attention to uncover the importance of aquaculture and the raising of the salmon and sturgeon fishes in the context of aquaculture), than the peculiarities of raising the salmon and sturgeon fishes have been presented as well as economical summaries of the trouts and sturgeons raising in UAB “Vasaknos” in the period 2010-2012 have been analyzed and the research has been implemented finally to identify the physical and chemical characteristics of the farm’s ponds’ water. All the data have been analyzed and the results of the work are being presented. The analysis of the economical characteristics of 2010-2012 shows that raising of the trouts and sturgeons is profitable for the farm – especially raising of the young trouts and trouts for selling. Economical balance is being quickly achieved in the farm despite the loss, coming from bad climate or birds of prey. This is a result of suitable supervision of the ponds, pools and reservoirs, its water which is of high quality for fishes‘ raising. It was observed during the research that physical and chemical characteristics of the UAB „Vasaknos“ ponds‘ water (temperature, pH, NO2, NO3, GH, O2, O2 repletion) are being rarely out of the norms. It was noticed as well that the temperature of the water is not of the big importance for the physical and chemical characteristics of it, but it must be stressed that when the water is getting colder, the amount of the oxygen in it is increasing. So the conclusions may be made that the peculiarities of the fishes raising as well as the research of the economical characteristics of the farm’s activity and physical and chemical characteristics of the ponds’ water proves the suitable work of UAB “Vasaknos” in the fishes raising. Despite this, a recommendation may be presented for the farm as follows: to discuss the possibilities to increase the raising of the sturgeon fishes, because the trouts raising is being competed by the Poland farmers in respect of price. And the realisation of the sturgeons is simpler. However, this conclusion is of the recommendation nature only and must be discussed by the farm owners themselves
